Venture Portraits Northern Ireland have once again joined forces with Northern Ireland’s premature baby charity TinyLife, to support its fundraising efforts for 2010.  This marks a significant milestone for the charity, as they prepare to celebrate their ‘21st Birthday’.

Venture, who are renowned for their unique and contemporary twist on family portraiture, have donated both their time and talent to a beautiful calendar that is to be sold to raise much needed funding for Northern Ireland’s premature and vulnerable baby charity, which currently receives no government funding for its invaluable work with young families.

The stunning images which feature on each calendar month capture some very special faces, all of whom have called upon TinyLife’s support throughout their young lives. The youngsters’ names were chosen out of a hat from over 750 entries from families throughout Northern Ireland who rely on TinyLife for support and advice on both an emotional and practical level.

Behind many of the cheeky grins and quirky poses lies power stories of trauma, as many of these young models started life in neo-natal units as premature and sick babies.

One such ‘Calendar Girl’ is eight month old Ruby (featured as the face of June) who was born 10 weeks early, scaling in at 3lbs 5oz.  Ruby spent the first 5 weeks of her little life between the Intensive Care Unit in the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital and the Neo Natal Unit at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald.  Wanting to give Ruby the best start possible, Mum Lyndsey contacted TinyLife who provided her with a breast pump which she describes as her ‘life-line’.

Ruby is joined, amongst others, by twin brothers, Alexander and Ben.  The boys were born 7 weeks early, weighing just 4lbs 3oz and 2lb 15oz respectively.  The boys also spent a period of time in the Royal Victoria and the Ulster Hospital, before being allowed home.  TinyLife provide the Family with a Family Support Volunteer, who helps out once a week with the twins.  Mum Alison describes their volunteer, Jacqui as being ‘just brilliant with the boys’.

Venture Northern Ireland has supported the charity for the last three years, with the 2009 calendar helping to raise in excess of £6,000 last year. Julie McBride, Venture Studio Manager, commented: “The partnership to raise funds for the charity went so well last year, it was a delight to get involved again. Photographs are the perfect way to tell a story visually, and these youngsters certainly have a story to tell!

“The TinyLife charity is fundamental to the first few months of coping with a new, vulnerable baby, and the support they offer is priceless. At Venture, we don’t just do portraits, we tell stories through images, and the work we do involves families from all walks of life. For us, this is the third year running that we have been involved with raising awareness of, and funds for, the charity, and it really is humbling. We get to capture true family spirit at a very young age, and that’s priceless.”
